Description including Unit Aims

This unit explores the dilemmas and problems faced by indigenous peoples in Spanish America, the United states, Australasia and Africa since the nineteenth century. Students will compare and contrast the different contexts of colonisation and independence struggles in these regions, focusing on key themes such as land rights, education and language, and migration/travel. They will discuss government policies, indigenous organisations' agendas and representations of indigenous peoples in literature, film and music.
