This unit will examine the relationship between the Mind and the World and, in particular, the extent to which the latter is constructed by or dependent upon the former. It is extremely natural to regard the world as possessing a pre-existing objective structure onto which our thoughts and concepts latch. However this unit will explore a series of provocative arguments from Dummett, Putnam, Quine, and followers of Wittgenstein, which attempt to invert this natural picture and establish that the structure of the world is in certain ways beholden to our cognitive processes.
