Description including Unit Aims

This unit introduces major themes in the history of Buddhist art and material culture, from ancient India to contemporary developments in other parts of Asia. Topics covered include: attitudes towards and the material world in Buddhist scripture, the iconography of images of the Buddha, rituals related to Buddhist icons, Buddhist iconoclasm, monastic clothing, Buddhist relics and Buddhist architecture.
