Description including Unit Aims

The unit 1. examines the development of the Church&�s worship, sacraments and ministry during the first five centuries; 2. explores the threat which the early churches faced both from without (Jewish and Roman persecution) and from within, most notably Gnosticism, Monarchianism and Arianism; 3. considers the development of the New Testament Canon and the influence of Constantine on the church and its theology; 4. provides a particular focus on the Christology of Athanasius, the Alexandrians and the teaching of the Cappadocian Fathers; 5. considers developments in early British Christianity, the early Christian Apologists and the spirituality of the Desert Fathers.
