Description including Unit Aims

From early in their course Baptist ministerial students are required to lead worship in the placement churches and other congregations. This module offers an early introduction to the theory and practice of preaching and leading worship in a free church setting in order to equip them for this early participation in professional practice. The module is in two parts delivered concurrently. 1. An introduction to leading worship which will include:

the conduct of public worship
an examination of the structure and dynamic flow of worship services
an examination of the component parts of worship
a survey of available worship resources and their use
an introduction to the theology of worship

2. An introduction to preaching which will include an introduction to

elementary hermeneutics
oral communication
sermon construction and development
the theology of preaching
