Description including Unit Aims

The unit 1.Examines the development of the Church's worship, sacraments and ministry during the first five centuries 2.Explores the threat which the early churches faced both from without (Jewish and Roman persecution) and from within, most notably Gnosticism, Monarchianism and Arianism 3.Considers the development of the New Testament Canon and the influence of Constantine on the church and its theology 4.Provides a particular focus on the Christology of Athanasius, the Alexandrians and the teaching of the Cappadocian Fathers 5.Considers developments in early British Christainity, the early Christian Apologists and the spirituality of the Desert Fathers.
