Description including Unit Aims

$Charismatic Theology& is a growing and developing field. This module examines key current theological, cultural and contextual issues relating to Pentecostal and charismatic movements. The unit aims to 1. give students a clear overview of the background, history and development of various charismatic and Pentecostal trends and $waves& in the Christian church. 2. help students to focus on the nature and role of the Holy Spirit in a number of different theological disciplines (doctrine, missiology, worship studies, ecclesiology, biblical studies etc). 3. help students to engage critically with some of the major controversies and issues of the charismatic movement. 4. give students the opportunity to encounter, discuss and evaluate some of the key texts and figures of charismatic and Pentecostal tradition. 5. help students to begin to form ideas about how they might engage with the gifts and ministry of the Holy Spirit in their own church contexts and in their future ministry.
