The approach taken will be a blend of the historical and the thematic. By this means it will be possible to see how issues have arisen and then developed and been dealt with as science itself has developed. Some of the subjects that will be covered are: 1. the Galileo affair and the relationship between the Bible and science; 2. the Darwinian debate and the role of God as Creator and Designer; 3. Quantum Theory and the question of chance and providence; 4. Capra, mysticism and modern physics. During the course different models for the relationship between science and religion will be highlighted. At the end of the course these will be subjected to closer scrutiny and critical evaluation. Care will be taken to explain scientific concepts and theories for the benefit of students with little previous knowledge of them.
