The first part of the module will concentrate on a historical and critical appraisal of the theology and development of evangelism particularly as it relates to contemporary models of practice. An attempt will be made to find an adequate biblical and doctrinal foundation to evangelism which allows for both the diversity of evangelistic paradigms and yet moves towards some form of consensus. The second part will seek to build on the insights so far achieved to try and construct a holistic approach to evangelism which is appropriate to the 'crisis of modernity'. Attention will be given to the need to move beyond purely individualistic approaches to evangelism as we take note of the critical inter-relationships between the gospel and modern culture, as well as different patterns of Christian discipleship and contemporary ideologies.
