Description including Unit Aims

On successful completion of the unit the student should: &� Trace the historical development of beliefs about and attitudes towards mental disorder and apply them to current practice &� Recognise signs of common mental disorders and identify appropriate sources of referral and support &� Identify and articulate appropriate forms of pastoral care and identify support provided in the local community &� Identify ways in which the local Church can effectively co-operate with medical and social work agencies in both the statutory and voluntary sectors &� Demonstrate sufficient working knowledge of appropriate pastoral counselling skills and be able to apply them until referral can be made.
