Description including Unit Aims

The course will explore the pathogenesis of disease caused by the interactions of viruses, bacteria and parasites with their vertebrate hosts at the molecular, cellular and organism level, and the host responses that attempt to control these infections. Specific examples will be used to demonstrate in detail the variety of such interactions, including the major zoonotic pathogens Salmonella and Campylobacter spp., feline immunodeficiency virus, bovine rotavirus, Mycobacterium bovis, Chlamydia psittaci, trypanosomes and nematodes.
