Having knowledge and skills in two languages is not the same as being able to translate between the two languages. In this unit students will pay close attention to their own usage and understanding of English, with the aim of increasing this knowledge and widening their vocabulary list. From this stand point the student will explore translation theory and how culture, situations and the translator's skill impact upon translation, particularly when using BSL or English. This unit will consider the importance of meaning at a linguistic and cultural level. Register and figurative language in BSL and English will be explored.
