The analytical project is a piece of independent research work, carried out under close supervision. The Unit director and/ or tutor will identify suitable focused research themes, and offer a choice to the students. The hypothesis to be tested, the data sets, and the means of testing will be set out for the student, so this is an exercise in carrying out independent work, but with close monitoring throughout. The aim is to produce a succinct 5000-word report, formatted as a publishable manuscript, correctly written and showing correct application of appropriate numerical methods. The unit is part of the progression in independent work offered through the programme. Students apply numerical and communication skills they have learned in Level 2 to a novel analytical problem.
