Description including Unit Aims

Objectives: To examine the literature of France in the Renaissance period covering major authors in five different genres. It is not a condition of acceptance for this unit to have successfully completed the equivalent 2nd year unit. Set texts Texts will be studied in the following order; Rabelais: Le Quart Livre (Garnier Flammarion); comic adventures Ronsard: Discours : Derniers Vers (Garnier Flammarion); polemical verse Montaigne: Essais, vol. 1 (Garnier, Flammarion); moralistic and personal essays La Bo�tie: Discours de la servitude volontaire(Garnier, Flammarion); exercise in political philosophy Louise Lab�: Ruvres po�tiques (Gallimard, Po�sies) ; love sonnets.
