Description including Unit Aims

This unit aims to train students with no knowledge of Catalan to read, write and speak the language with reasonable fluency. It is taught by a Catalan language tutor who is sponsored by the Catalan Autonomous Government. As well as the University assessment, it is possible for the tutor to arrange for you to sit the appropriate International Certificate of Catalan, recognised by the Catalan Government. There are 2 classes per week over the whole academic year. If you are successful in this unit, there is a follow up unit available in year 4, HISP30014 Catalan Language and Literature that works to strengthen, extend and refine skills in written, aural and spoken Catalan developed in year 2 and introduces students to key works of Modern Catalan Literature.
