This unit will explore the scope of international criminal rules and analyse the jurisprudence of national or international tribunals. In this context, the unit will examine the definition and elements of international crimes, the modalities of individual criminal responsibility, the principle of superior responsibility, issues of jurisdiction and immunities. Finally the unit will consider the role and efficacy of international criminal justice in comparison with other methods of attributing justice.
