This is a compulsory 60 cp unit and an integral part of a 180 cp MRes programme in Functional Nanomaterials. It will be an independent research project of 5-6 months duration, building on earlier taught and practical training of the MRes in Functional Nanomaterials, allowing students to hone and refine independent research skills.
Aims:
The overarching aim of the unit is for the student to develop independent research skills. Additionally, the students will put into practice the interdisciplinary research acumen acquired throughout other parts of the MRes in Functional Nanomaterials.
The student will have developed:
Supervised independent research project.
Assessment will be by Thesis (15,000 words) and oral examination, as outlined in the University guidelines on research degrees (Regulations and Code of Practice for Research Degree Programmes). Assessment will be carried out by two academics, one internal and one external examiner.
Detailed references and reading will be provided by the academic supervisor responsible for each Extended Project.
