This unit is for complete beginners and entrants with GCSE. It gives students a thorough grounding in Russian grammar, a good basic vocabulary, and the ability to converse, read and translate both ways at a rudimentary level. Five hours of language tuition a week, including a core element of four hours a week with a specialist ab initio teacher and one hour a week developing mixed skills in which there will be comprehension exercises, conversation classes with a native speaker and a set-text element.
