Description including Unit Aims

This unit will provide the basic groundwork for theology. It will explore the nature of religious language and the sources and basic categories of theology. The unit will also illustrate how theological thinking is applied to real solutions, in the history of the Church, in the contemporary Church.

Aims:

  • To understand the nature of theology and theological language.
  • To understand the historical development and the contribution of some important theologians and theologies.
  • To understand the relationship between theology and the worship, mission and ministry of the Church .

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the unit the student should:

  • Have a basic understanding of theology, its theoretical development and practical use
  • Be able to reflect theologically
  • Be able to apply theological concepts to contemporary issues

Assessment Information

Two essays of 2000 words from a set list of titles (50% each).
