Description including Unit Aims
This unit will describe the chronology of the Biblical period and the formation of the Old and New Testament canons, questions of translation, genres, literary critical approaches, historical context and world-view.
Aims:
- To underpin and encourage the study of the Bible and provide the grounding for its further study.
- To provide the tools for the study and application of Biblical concepts and insights.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the unit the student should:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the Bible: its formation, history and world views
- Show some understanding of the issues involved in translation
- Have a working knowledge of modern Biblical scholarship
- Have a working knowledge of the basic principles and methods of exegesis, interpretation and application.
