Description including Unit Aims

This unit will build on the Introduction to Biblical Studies unit and will facilitate the development of more advanced skills in Biblical exegesis. It begins with an exploration of the nature of Biblical exegesis in relation to specific texts. The problems of Biblical interpretation, and the relationship of interpretation to exegesis, will also be explored. It provides the opportunity to use their exegetical and interpretative skills in relation to a variety of contexts and tasks.

Aims:

  • To explore different exegetical approaches
  • To identifying approaches used by commentators
  • To considering the relationship of interpretation to exegesis
  • To use exegetical and interpretative skills in a variety of contexts

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the unit the student should:
