Description including Unit Aims

The unit will examine the Christian Church both in the self understanding of Israel, and in the teaching and actions of Jesus. Particular attention is paid to the teaching of Paul, including the language he uses about the church, his understanding of both his apostolic ministry and the varied ministries and gifts of others. The question of how the teaching of Jesus and of Paul about the Kingdom and the Church, about leadership and ministry, and about more specific issues, such as discipline and boundaries, are to be related. The contributions of other New Testament writings: priesthood in Hebrews and 1 Peter, the distinctive teaching of the Johannine writings, as well as the Deutero-Pauline letters.
