This final year undergraduate BSL unit builds on learning undertaken in the first two years of the BSc programme. The unit enables students to communicate in BSL at a level sufficiently advanced to support active participation in accurate communication in a range of complex communication contexts. It will cover both productive and receptive skills in all areas and teach specialised vocabulary for use in technology, medical settings, financial and legal situations and other specialist areas in everyday usage among the deaf community. There will also be a focus on increased self-analysis of BSL production. Those who are on the Interpreting pathway will need to achieve between 45% and 64% for CACDP's Junior Trainee Interpreter status (JTI) and 65% and over for CACDP's Trainee Interpreter status (TI).
