This unit will explore and assess a student's ability to be aware of self. It will encourage students to embark on a journey of self-exploration, to examine motives, origins, assumptions, drives and ambitions. It will raise the questions: What has prompted us to become helpers? What do we get out of our helping work and how can we develop our role as helpers?
Aims:
The unit aims to increase students awareness of self. To push back the boundaries and barriers to self understanding, to be able to monitor, evaluate and nurture ourselves in our work and in our lives generally
1. Identify and assess own levels of self-awareness
2. Synthesise and manage own current personal development
3. Enhance and promote own support systems
4. Analyse, nurture and map out own personal growth paths, both in the past and in the future
Lectures, Seminars, Small Group Work, Presentations, e-learning.
Assessment is through:
a) a creative piece which consists of a choice of one from the following:
b) From this creative piece a 1,500 word reflective self evaluation of personal development will be written (70%)
