Description including Unit Aims

Analytical methods are developed further, especially for plate and shell structures. Industrial applications, including the use of advanced materials, will be covered.

The aim of this unit is to further develop analysis methods, especially for plate and shell structures, and to cover advanced materials, and industrial applications. Upon successful completion of the unit the student will be able to:

  • analyse multi-cell light aircraft structures
  • understand plate bending and buckling phenomena
  • apply the basic equations of continuum mechanics to stress analysis problems
  • select appropriate materials for advanced applications
  • appreciate practical industrial issues related to aerospace structures.
