Description including Unit Aims

The technical issues and the underlying design requirements will be covered for the three major systems areas: orbits, launches and manned space flight. Students will be required to contribute to the design of a complete space system and show an awareness of the political and economic context of space technology.

This module aims to develop an understanding of the technology and other issues related to astronautics, with an in depth review of one topic. Upon successful completion of this unit the student will:

  • have a basic knowledge of Non keplerian orbits, manned spaceflight, advanced propulsion, space environment and some aspects of space policy
  • have demonstrated a Masters Level (i.e. forefront) understanding of one specific topic.
