Description including Unit Aims

This Unit will introduce the history of archaeology and the beginning of modern archaeology in the 19th Century. The Unit will trace the methodological development of the discipline from the early antiquarians to the present day. Archaeological theory will be introduced to provide an overview of the historical background to current archaeological theory and practice. It will include the Processual and Post-processual archaeology of the 1960's and 1970's.
