This Unit provides an introduction to artefacts and combines a lecture with a practical 'hands-on' session. Students will be introduced to the various types of archaeological artefacts commonly found in excavations: lithics, pottery, metal and glass, together with organic materials such as wood. The teaching will be carried out in the University of Bristol's Spelaeological Society which houses collections excavated by the Society's members. Students will also be taught to draw and photograph an object in order to produce a Poster for assessment.
