Description including Unit Aims

The unit covers the theoretical, practical and policy aspects of identifying, quantifying and mitigating flood risk. Themes covered will be: flood hydrology; statistics; hydraulics and modelling; coastal flood risk; flood defence; urban flooding; climate change; hazard and risk; policy and legal aspects; flood forecasting; groundwater; and water quality. The unit will equip students with the knowledge to be able to perform flood risk assessments as practising engineers through lectures and practical work.
