The study of a language is complemented by the study of its literature. Sign language literature is unwritten but there is nevertheless a rich canon of culturally important pieces of art language. This unit will consider the concept of sign literature in relation to folklore and the idea of oral literature. It will involve in-depth study and analysis of the language used in performance art story-telling and sign language poetry, as well as humour.
