Description including Unit Aims

The unit covers seven topics in macroeconomics. The first concerns long-run macroeconomics: the theory of economic growth and economic convergence. The next three explore the theories that explain short-run behaviour of aggregate demand: money, consumption and investment. Topic five covers theories of aggregate supply, stressing the roles played by rational expectations and price stickiness. Topic six develops the new Keynesian 3-equation model and explores its implications for monetary policy. In the final topic fiscal policy is analyses using the overlapping generations model. Topics 1 to 5 are covered in the Autumn term; topics 6 and 7 in the Spring term.
