Description including Unit Aims

This unit provides a background into elementary topics in continuous mathematics for computer science students. Topics covered include Calculus, Series, Linear Algebra and Probability and Statistics.

Aims:

The student aims to provide a foundational understanding of key topic in elementary continuous mathematics of relevance to computer science students.

Intended Learning Outcomes

This unit will provide students with:

1. An understanding of basic linear algebra, analysis and calculus so that students can be proficient in their algorithmic application.
2. Be familiar with basic theory of probability and statistics and its use in computer science

Assessment Information

In-class progress Test: 10% (learning outcome 1)

2-hour Summer Examination: 90% (all learning outcomes)
