The term 'Autobiographies' denotes any form of cultural practice committed to the representation of the self, but which falls outside conventional definitions of autobiography. This unit examines a diverse range of such practices in different national and historical contexts, and in different media including oral testimonies, film, photography, and performance art as well as through the written word. While the choice of topics is potentially vast, particular emphasis will be given to types of cultural production which cut across the boundaries of nation, ethnicity and gender.
