Description including Unit Aims
This unit gives a general introduction to the history and theology of the Christian Church and to its evolution through centuries of mission and ministry. The origins of the main Christian denominations will be outlined and will provide the framework for a study of the ecumenical movement Historical, Scriptural and theological models of the Church will be studied alongside contemporary 'fresh expressions' of Church.
Aims:
- Describe the scriptural, historical and theological models of the Church
- Describe the origins and emphases of the main Christian denominations
- Enable students to locate their ongoing study in an ecclesial context.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the unit the student should:
- Understand the historical development of the Church
- Understand the various theological models of Church
- Understand the major denominations and movements within Christianity worldwide
- Understand the ecumenical movement
- Understand the place of worship, mission, theology and ministry in the life of the Church.
