Description including Unit Aims

This unit describes the wide range of ministries within the Church and explores the scriptural, ecclesial, historical theological and ecclesial basis for them. It will provide the opportunity to reflect on a Christian ministry of their own and/or others. The unit will also provide a theoretical grounding of the pastoral ministry of the Church and develop the skill to utilise the pastoral cycle to become a reflective practitioner.

Aims:

  • To understand the scriptural, historical, theological and ecclesial basis for the different ministries of the Church.
  • To provide a theoretical grounding of the pastoral ministry of the Church.
  • To develop the skill to utilise the pastoral cycle to become a reflective practitioner.
  • To evaluate and reflect upon their own ministry and/or that of others.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the unit the student should:

  • Appreciate and understand the various Christian ministries in the life and mission of the Church.
  • Understand what it means to be a pastor and ‘reflective practitioner’;
  • Have an awareness of their own possible contributions to Christian ministry

Two essays of 2000 words (50% each).
