This unit introduces students to the history of Argentina from the period of independence (1810) to the years immediately following the fall of Peronism (1955). Students will explore the ways in which a sense of national identity was fostered and developed over the course of the nineteenth century, examine the principal debates concerning nationalism, and consider the ways in which cultural, economic, right-wing and left-wing nationalism have shaped the countrys political history and culture in the twentieth century.
