The unit introduces students to some recent theoretical work on the implications of travel. The unit will then focus on a series of texts all centrally concerned with travel but divided thematically into three sections. The first section looks at visions of North Africa in the 1930s and 1990s. The second section looks at texts that offer radically different perceptions of Europe. The third section will examine the different representations of India offered by Sandra Petrignani and Antonio Tabucchi.
