Description including Unit Aims

Consolidation and development of general language structures and functions acquired in Ab-initio Mandarin Chinese. Further development of basic language structures enabling students to build upon their existing language competence. Particular emphasis will be placed on the skills necessary for effective oral and written communication in the target language at an intermediate level. This unit includes: general communication skills; extension of more complex grammatical structures; development of knowledge of the vocabulary used in everyday language; consolidation and further development of the use and meaning of Chinese characters; general and academic listening and speaking skills; further exposure to cultural and social aspects of the language.
