Description including Unit Aims

This unit examines approaches to academic study of the Bible over the past 150 years, focusing on the Hebrew Scriptures (in English translation). It considers the rise of source criticism and subsequent historical-critical developments as well as newer structuralist and 'postmodern' methodologies. Students are encouraged to think critically about the nature and significance of the 'Biblical Studies story' as it has unfolded over the decades, with reference to particular books/passages as appropriate.
