This unit provides Single and Joint Honours students with the opportunity to focus on and develop their analytical skills. At the beginning of the unit students will agree to a schedule of performances, films and television programmes. Small tutorial groups will then meet fortnightly throughout the Teaching Block to discuss and analyse the works that they have seen together.
This unit: - extends students' understandings of key areas in the study and analysis of performance and screen media; - develops critical understandings of the crucial components of performance and screen media through viewing contemporary works in circulation; - utilises conceptual vocabularies and theoretical frameworks for the creative analysis of contemporary works in circulation; - develops understandings of performance and screen media in an historical context.
Small-group tutorials (max 6 students)
Assessment: Student presentations in weeks 21 & 23; students to audio record presentations and submit to tutorial leader. Each student will present twice. Each presentation is worth 50%. Both presentations will be 10 minutes long, followed by 5 minutes of questions from the group and will be assessed according to published criteria, and addressing the specific elements of the learning outcomes:
