Intended Learning Outcomes
- To consolidate your knowledge of reproductive physiology and anatomy and to learn about normal pregnancy and fertility control in the clinical situation
- To understand the terminology used in obstetrics, gynaecology, sexual health and care of the newborn
- To acquire working knowledge and understanding of common diseases in obstetrics, gynaecology, sexual health and care of the newborn
- To learn the adaptive processes that a newborn baby makes to extra-uterine life, and to recognise and understand the problems that both a term and pre-term neonate might face
- To learn the skills of history taking and clinical examinations in obstetrics, gynaecology, sexual health and care of the newborn and be able to interpret the findings
- To develop clinical skills by competently carrying out a number of specific tasks and learning to interpret the results of commonly used investigations
- To develop communication and presentation skills in ward, clinic and tutorial settings
- To study in depth a topic of your choosing related to obstetrics, gynaecology, sexual health, or care of the newborn and present it as a Student Selected Component (SSC) project to your peers and examiners
- To gain insight into the psychological, ethical and legal aspects of reproductive health and care of the newborn whilst maintaining a professional attitude at all times
